Newsletter - Spring 2010
We’ve had a fantastic spring in the orchestra department at RHS. To start with, congratulations to our students who participated in the State Solo and Ensemble Contest at Ellensburg in April. All played beautifully. Students who placed were: Annika K. 2nd - violin, Grant O. 2nd - cello, Margaret D. 3rd - harp, Jimmy P. 2nd - horn, Zoe F. 3rd - flute, Flute duo ( Zoe & Lauren) - 2nd, and Tutta Forza 3rd ( Annika, Leah, Grant, Ariana, Julia & Bronwyn.)
Our new organ was celebrated with a performance of the St. Saens organ Concerto featuring George Shangrow on organ accompanied by the Symphonic orchestra. The concert orchestra performed “Winter” from the “Four Seasons” by Vivaldi featuring three soloists from the violin section: Rachel H., Rachel R., and Bronwyn E. The chamber orchestra performed three pieces by Beethoven, Godard and Rossi on viols. The Tutta Forza group performed the 1st movement of the "Souvenir de Florence” by Tchaikovsky as well.
Our last concert of the year is on June 10 and many of our graduating seniors will be performing concertos with the orchestra. Join us before the concert at 6 for a pizza dinner as a fundraiser for the orchestra. Bring a salad and we provide the pizza and a chance to congratulate our seniors on a great year!
We’re excited for a new year and a number of events are planned for the fall, including a welcome potluck and an all-orchestra retreat at Pack Forest September 10-12. We are holding auditions for prospective members on June 7-8 for incoming students. Please contact Anna Edwards, orchestra director.
We are planning our annual online auction in November as a major fundraiser and hope you will all consider how you can help, by donating items or as a volunteer for this. One last fundraiser is ongoing, Barry Wong photographer has taken beautiful pictures of the last several concerts and you can purchase them from his website: http://barrywong.smugmug.com/RHS?orchestra. Your purchases will help raise money to fund our yearly activities.
