Roosevelt High School Orchestra Auction
December 3 - 8th, 2009!

Dear Roosevelt Orchestra Families & Supporters,

The auction is ending at 8:59 pm tonight!! This is Pacific Standard Time. And, the competition is getting fierce!

If you haven't bid yet, here are some pointers we've come up with to get you started.

How to Bid

  1. Find the item you want to bid on and click on it so you go to that item's page.
  2. On the item page - on the left you'll see a picture of the item or the donor's logo. On the right will be "time left, opening bid, etc." Below that you will see a small button that says "sign in to bid". Click on that.
  3. At the next screen it will ask you to sign in (if you haven't already). If you haven't registered yet, you can do that now.
  4. Once you have signed in - it takes you back to the item page.
  5. You can then add your bid. It also makes you put down your maximum bid since you can actually configure it so that it will raise your bid (only as needed to stay in the lead) to your maximum without you having to do it yourself.
  6. If you want to stick with a fixed amount and not have the system automatically increment your bid, you can just repeat the bid that you entered in the box as your bid (e.g. bid $10, max bid $10). You can change your maximum bid later if you want. You will be getting emails about your bids and when you get outbid.
  7. It may direct you to add a credit card if this is the first time you are bidding or even if you had added it before. Go through the screens that show you how to add your credit card. Remember, your card will NOT be charged since we are only accepting cash and checks. The auction platform uses this to authenticate you as a real bidder.
  8. You should now be back at the item screen. You can click on "place a bid". It will ask for confirmation (again, saying "confirm bid using card #xxx", though we won't actually be charging the card) and you're done.
  9. NOTE: Since this web platform is new to us, we have chosen not to accept credit cards this year; we'll consider this for next year if the auction is successful. The site is used to assuming people use credit cards and the language reflects that.

Auction Glossary

Opening bid: the minimum amount that the item will sell for - the site won't let you bid for less. If an item has an opening bid listed and no bids, nobody has bid on it yet.

Leading bid: means that someone (or several someones) has bid and this is the current top bid.

Minimum bid: means the next level at which someone will need to bid to beat the current leading bid. Most items under $100 increment up $5 at a time, with lower-priced ones having smaller increments. Items above $100 have higher increments.

Thank You!!!

Thank you for your interest in our auction, which is a major fundraiser for the orchestra programs at Roosevelt High School. We need everyone to participate as donors, procurers, publicizers, and bidders.
